Over the holidays we added a new family member, and since I have always been a proud, self-proclaimed DOG person, I'm still a little surprised at my own willingness to step so far out of my comfort zone.
We got a cat.
Well, she's a kitten, really...And even the biggest cat opponents I know still have a hard time being turned off by a sweet little fuzzy kitten.
My kids have been begging for one for months. We were feeding/kind of harboring/growing attached to a stray before we moved to the city, but that cat loved the great outdoors too much and would never have made it here. Plus, remember, I'm a DOG person, so when we moved here and were able to get a pet, we got a DOG.
Cooper's the BEST dog, and we love him. I couldn't understand why he couldn't just be enough for my kids, but when I saw a mouse in the house shortly before Thanksgiving I started warming up to the cat idea. I knew we'd have to probably start with a kitten because it would acclimate to the dog faster and easier!
Susan is great entertainment. She's affectionate and she even lets me clip her nails. When I can't locate her, I usually just have to find our dog, and she's snuggled up next to him. It's the most endearing thing (even though I know Cooper only tolerates her.) Susan loves Cooper because he's her only fur friend; he tolerates her because he's too lazy to move away from her and REALLY likes cat food. I think I love her.
I'm still a dog person. (Mostly.)
